HERE Arts Center
New York, NY 10013
HERE Arts Center is looking to fill 2 internship positions: one for the Development and one for the General Management department. Interns are an integral part of the work produced at HERE and is a great opportunity to experience the downtown theater world up close. Interns are able to see any HERE productions free of charge and have access to other perks that are made available to the HERE staff.
Upcoming productions include Looking At You by Kamala Sankaram and Rob Handel, directed by Kristin Marting; Zoey Martinson’s The Black History Museum… According to the United States of America; the Winter Puppet Parlor, HERE’s annual puppetry celebration; and the annual PROTOTYPE Festival as well as a number of presentations by independent theatre companies.
GENERAL MANAGEMENT INTERN
The General Management Intern will assist the General Manager and Assistant General Manager in finance tracking and budget management, box office settlements and reconciliations, aiding in the contracting process for artists and productions, company management duties, which include hospitality arrangements, and other administrative tasks as needed. They will also be responsible for maintaining the café and managing the various inventories across the building.
The successful candidate should be a detail-oriented, well-organized self-starter, with excellent writing, communication and computer skills.
They should have an interest in arts administration and production.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is preferred.
Must be able to commit to 20-25 hours per week from September to January. These are the preferred dates, but we’re open to an alternative schedule based on the candidate.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to learn how to produce a show from the ground up, including learning about budgeting and contracting for works-in-progress as well as productions. It is also a great opportunity to develop skills in a presenting organization that is big enough to support works in a variety of genres (dance, theatre, puppetry, visual art), but small enough to really get involved.
To apply for the General Management Internship, please email your resume and cover letter to email@example.com.
HERE is looking for a development fellow to assist the busy day-to-day operations of a three-member Development Department. Responsibilities will include donor data management and relations, generating donation receipts and funder communications, assisting with individual donor campaigns and special events, and, for the right candidate, grant writing and reporting.
Candidates must possess strong writing skills, be detail oriented, be capable of staying focused in a busy environment, and thrive at working independently. This is a great opportunity for those looking to garner experience with non-profit arts fundraising, and to understand the relationship between financial development and season programming.
Interns at HERE are at the center of the very busy operation of a non-profit theatre organization and all producing activities. Although the Development Intern will concentrate on the daily operations of the development department, they may be asked to assist in other areas of HERE's operations throughout the internship. For this position, you must be available to work 20 hours per week, at least through the end of the year but preferably into early January. School credits are available.
