The New 42nd Street, a non-profit cultural organization in midtown Manhattan, seeks a full-time Handyperson for the New 42nd Street Studios, a Class-E facility that contains offices, rehearsal studios, and a black-box theater and is active seven days per week.
The ideal candidate should have solid experience in plumbing and performing repairs and maintenance tasks, including electrical, locks & doors, painting, and carpentry. Knowledge of commercial boilers, HVAC, BMS, and fire suppression systems preferred.
The Handyperson will work evenings, weekends and some holidays, actively maintaining public areas, restrooms, studios, the theater, and the sidewalk (including rubbish and snow removal).
Should be a team player with a willingness to pitch in, acting as a lead cleaner as needed, and have high standards for delivering quality workmanship to deadlines.
Requirements include 2 years of handyperson experience and the ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; high school diploma or equivalent and good communication skills, including English literacy.
The Handyperson position is a union represented role and is required to join the Local 32BJ union after 30 days of employment.
