Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) seeks an intern to be part of BAM’s Institutional Giving team, a close-knit unit of the Planning & Development Department. Position is paid.

A core unit of BAM’s Planning & Development Department, BAM’s Institutional Giving office is responsible for raising more than $8 million annually from foundations and government agencies. The Institutional Giving Team accomplishes its goal through the creation of fundraising proposals and project budgets, and by building relationships with funders through additional correspondence such as acknowledgement letters, reports, site visits, and more.  The office also develops and maintains language on BAM’s programming and institutional direction that is used department- and organization-wide.

An internship with BAM’s Institutional Giving unit provides outstanding experience for candidates interested in fundraising, performing arts administration, government relations, or arts and cultural nonprofits.   

Schedule: Approx. 20 hours per week

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Developing grant proposals and reports for institutional funders, including private foundations and government entities
  • Drafting cover and acknowledgement letters
  • Working with Senior Institutional Giving Manager to develop Foundation prospect and research strategies
  • Providing key assistance on gift processing and tracking
  • Preparing informational/research packets for donors and mailings
  • Contacting funders to follow up on prior discussions/correspondence
  • Maintaining information in BAM’s fundraising database, Tessitura
  • Other special projects as appropriate

Requirements: Excellent organizational, writing, and telephone/communication skills; Word and Excel for Windows.

Pay Rate: Pay Rate: $16 - $17.50 per hour, depending on experience/education level
