New York Stage and Film (NYSAF), a not-for-profit AEA Company which produces its summer season of new plays at the Powerhouse Theater at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, seeks fulltime MASTER ELECTRICIAN for the 2018 Powerhouse Season.  Season includes 2 fully-produced mainstage productions, 3 musical workshops, 2 play workshops, 10 readings, and a few project residencies. Positions generally run from early June to early August.  Salary and free on-campus housing provided.

The MASTER ELECTRICAN will assist Lighting Supervisor in ordering/rental/ purchase of all necessary lighting equipment, attending technical and dress rehearsals and performances as needed, working on load-ins, hangs and focuses of all electrics, lights, and sound, and working on strikes for all mainstage and workshop productions.  Will help supervise a team of four interns. Previous experience preferred.

New York Stage and Film (NYSAF) is a non-profit company dedicated to both emerging and established artists in the development and production of new works for theater and film.  Since 1985, NYSAF has played a major role in the development of new plays for the American theater, provided a home for a diverse group of artists free from critical and commercial pressures, and has established itself as a vital cultural institution for residents of the New York metropolitan region.  The people and projects we support go on to shape the landscape of theater in America and around the world; our apprentices and interns mature to become leaders in the performing arts and beyond; and our audiences sustain the work of celebrated artists and newly-discovered voices, as crucial participants in the creation of new work.

The cornerstone of NYSAF’s artistic programming is the Powerhouse Season, an eight-week residency and partnership with Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, where each summer more than two hundred and fifty professional playwrights, directors, actors, and designers as well as close to fifty student apprentices live and work together.  During the Powerhouse Season, NYSAF is deliberately flexible with its production resources and with its three producing venues, to meet the specific needs of artists and projects. The professional artists present mainstage productions with full technical support, as well as workshops and readings of works in progress, all of which are open to the public.

Nearly 30 projects developed recently by NYSAF have had or will soon have major productions including the 2016 Tony Award-winners Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda and The Humans by Stephen Karam, as well as: The Wolves by Sarah DeLappe and Junk by Ayad Akhtar (Lincoln Center Theater); A 24-Decade History of Popular Music by Taylor Mac (St. Ann’s Warehouse & International Tour); Hadestown by Anaïs Mitchell (New York Theatre Workshop); The Homecoming Queen by Ngozi Anyanwu and The Great Leap by Lauren Yee (Atlantic Theater Company); etc.
