SHAKESPEARE THEATRE COMPANY (Washington, D.C.) seeks a Directing Fellow to support its upcoming production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing directed by new Artistic Director, Simon Godwin. The Directing Fellow will assist the production team during rehearsals and performances, which may include serving as the Lead Assistant Director or as a Second Assistant: March 16th – June 14th, 2020.

Duties include supporting the director with all aspects of the rehearsal and production process including but not limited to research, text analysis, recording blocking, rehearsing understudies and maintaining the production once it has opened. The Directing Fellow also facilitates communication between the theatre staff and the production team and may have administrative responsibilities related to the operation of the Artistic Department.

Fellows receive a $150 weekly stipend, fully furnished, rent-free housing in downtown D.C., and staff benefits including free tickets, acting classes and company events.

Candidates should have a degree in theatre, experience as an Assistant Director on professional productions, a working knowledge of Shakespeare and other classics, and excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
