4 M, 3-4 F:
ANNA (female) – Mid-twenties, seen too many therapists, has taken too many pills, has mastered the art of sarcasm and deflection. Hobbies include Dickens novels and bad dates. She has always struggled to find a sense of normalcy amidst a backdrop of losing her mother and fighting her own demons. She craves intimacy, but doesn’t know how to let others in. (any ethnicity). Mezzo with Belt
JOHN (male) – Mid-fifties, father of Anna. He teaches Math at a community college and enjoys doing crosswords with his daughter, as long as the conversation steers clear of her past abuses of pills that got her expelled from college. He continues to avoid confronting the loss of his wife and the reasons she died and has associated Anna’s struggles with hers. He has found a wonderfully soothing distraction in his new fiancé, Dana (any ethnicity). Baritenor/Tenor
JESSE (male) – Mid-twenties, has type 1 diabetes, his parents are both shrinks, obsessive, slightly awkward, and brilliant, especially when it comes to online chess. He feels isolated by his illness and all the ways it prevents him from living life to the fullest. He’s often prone to rash impulsive decisions to prove to himself he’s still got freedom. Very smitten with Anna and her acerbic attitude towards him. (any ethnicity). Tenor
DR. BRENNER (male) – Middle-aged, intelligent, insightful without being intrusive. He has a portrait of Freud hanging on his office wall that he painted himself. He is plagued by the memory of another patient he lost many years ago, and, while he won’t readily admit it, is desperate for a chance at redemption (any ethnicity). Baritenor/Tenor
DANA (female) – 30s-50s, John’s fiancé and a yoga instructor, constantly trying to live her life to fullest and in harmony with the universe. Positive, sweet, upbeat with her head in the clouds. NMTC B - JEANNETTE
Travel Dates: June 24 – July 6 8
F /6 M
Jeannette - "everyone wants to be around her" - Both men and women wanted to be intimate with her, star power. You can't look away. High status. Brilliant. non-white. Age - 35 - 40. Strong pop belt.
Wellington - I think it's a bit of what we see in Jeannette, but her star quality outweighs his. Still, I love that comparison to the Kennedys. I wonder about him being very fit and really able to take over a room. If he isn't extremely good looking, he should have the confidence of a man who is. He was a boxer. Any Ethnicity. Age - 30 - 35. Strong pop belt.
Edna - Maternal quality. Energetically she should feel different from Jeannette in that way, though we know the kind of transformation she has to make. She is the youngest Rankin. Any Ethnicity. 25 - 35. Mezzo soprano and pop/rock belt.
Olive - Doesn’t need to be a strong singer. Sturdy body. Any Ethnicity. 60s. physically solid. Greenwich - Strong willed, a rival to Jeannette. Confident. Openly gay woman. Strong pop/rock belt.
LGA - A deeply genuine "good guy." Around the same age as Jeannette, they should feel like equals. Should not have an obvious sex appeal. A solid body. Though he is perhaps the “character man” of the principals, he should not feel like a straight-up comedian. Strong pop belt.
This group below should be a full range of ages and races. Fully inclusive. All the women have a lot of text and demanding acting roles.. Man 1 and 2 also have a substantial amount of text.
Woman 1 - Abused Wife (Eleanor) /Aide (Jeannette's Congressional Aide) / Late 20s-40s
Woman 2 - Prudence (anti-suffragist)/Army Nurse / Late 20s-40s
Woman 3 - Chief of Staff / Late 20s-40s
Woman 4 - Mary (Black Suffragist) /Febb Burn (Harry Burn's mother) / Late 20s-40s
Man 1 - Friend of Wellington/Congressman/Harry / Late 20s-40s
Man 2 - Wilson/Colleague/Congressman / Late 20s-40s
Man 3/ Late 20s-40s
Man 4 / 20s-40s

JIN (F. Teens) A child of Korea. Militantly optimistic, she smuggles herself on to the shores of Seattle after her entire family is massacred by the Japanese. A Seattle Earthquake gives her the power of invisibility. As a storyteller, she is the over-enthused intern. Musicianship on a single instrument , preferably guitar.
MAMA Q (F. Early 40s) A Mama of Mexican descent, first generation immigrant to USA. Leader, mother, and activist, Q suffers no fools. Having fought next to General Zapata in the Mexican revolution, she believes in justice for the people, but refuses to use violence as a method for any cause. Has the power of telekinesis. Think Professor X with more hair and mad cooking skills. As a storyteller, she is the leader of the pack. Musicianship on a single instrument.
MANDO (M. teens or early 20s) Mama Q’s son, has a heart-breakingly positive world-view. He has a bleating heart. He aspires to one day be a police officer. Musicianship on a single instrument , preferably guitar.
WHISK (?. Teens) A child of Africas, but very American. Opportunist with a good brain for numbers, with too much heart to be really good at business. Musicianship on a single instrument.
IVY (F. late 20s.) A Wife of the Philippines. Opinionated, fiery and ready to break anything in her way. Recently liberated from a violent home environment, Ivy is very into sexual freedom, feminism, and getting her way. Has powers of incredible strength. Think Hulk, smaller and hotter.
