American Traditions Vocal Competition

The American Traditions Vocal Competition is now accepting online applications for the 2019 competition in Savannah, Georgia. Singers compete through three consecutive rounds of live competition for a panel and a live audience in Savannah, vying for a top prize of $12,000 and a paid symphonic engagement with the Savannah Phiharmonic Orchestra.
This year's adjudication panel include Broadway star Phillip Boykin, Operatic composer Michael Ching and American Jazz legend (founder of the first-ever Women in Jazz Festival) Melba Joyce. Past winners have gone on to operatic careers, Broadway careers, and have starred in television shows. These performers include Julie Benko (Fiddler, Les Miserables) , Tituss Burgess (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Little Mermaid), Morgan James (Godspell, Wonderland, Postmodern Jukebox), Phillip Boykin (currently playing TonTon Julian in Tony Winning Revival of Once On This Island), Michael Maliakel (Monsoon Wedding), Douglas Carpenter (Beautiful), Andrew Garland, Leenya Rideout, Kimberly Hawkey, Joshua Carswell, Vale Rideout and many others.
The American Traditions Vocal Competition celebrates and preserves all styles of classic American music (defined as music written by composers holding US Citizenship). Singers are asked to perform in a broad range of styles, choosing nine to represent in their complete program; from opera, to musical theatre, jazz, pop, folk and spirituals - we regard all genres of music with the respect they deserve.
