Equity actors for various roles. See breakdown.
LEO (Late 50’s – 60’s) Jewish. Upper middle class and aging well. The undisputed alpha male of thefamily, husband of Susan and older brother/senior business partner of David. He is direct, strong-willed, and terrified of being vulnerable, though we see him unravel during the play due to a serious medical diagnosis.
DAVID (50’s – early 60’s) Jewish. Middle class, likeable, kindly. The submissive and honorableyounger brother and junior business partner of Leo, and husband of Mindy. He is unhappy with hislife, and is walked over by those around him—we see him begin the play without a spine, but during the play discovers his need to stand up for himself.
SUSAN (50’s) Leo’s wife. Dependent, kind, and unfulfilled. She is tightly wound and guarded, concerned with the appearance of her life, yet continues to have a very controlled sense of humor. Always wanting a child, she is motherless and has never gotten over the sadness of not having one.Submissions of all ethnicities strongly encouraged.
MINDY (50’s – early 60’s) Middle class. The wife of David and mother of Bradley. Dominant and funnywith venomous bite. She lacks the time (and effort) of being able to take care of herself, she is astrong woman, and though her son Bradley would call her ‘nagging,’ she is frustrated with how the cards have been dealt and works to keep the ship afloat.
GAIL (50’s) Jewish. The sister of Leo and David. Single, successful, fearful, and fiercely independent by necessity. She puts her physical health as a top priority—she’s vegan, loves pilates, uses handsanitizer at every turn. A smart woman, she can communicate with everyone in the family, especially Bradley where we see how caring she is.
BRADLEY (20’s) The son of David and Mindy. He hasn’t been able to develop emotionally, despite being incredibly smart, and has not taken care of himself—he eats poorly and doesn’t leave the housemuch. He secludes himself, confining himself to his bedroom and the world of video games. Brilliant and stuck, he wrestles with an anger born from deep sadness.
