Seeking ACTOR/SINGERS for Concert Reading of a new musical
by Nathan Dennis and Eddie Bean
Directed by Maya Hana Evans
Performance March 21st, 2020 at Green Room 42
Seeking video submissions for the following roles:
ISHTAR: late 20s/early 30s, WOC, mezzo soprano (A3-F#5) - Ishtar is a passionate cook currently stuck working as a bartender. She's nurturing and supportive of her long-term partner, but doesn't pull any punches when it comes to expressing what she wants. Seeking a woman of color for this role (someone of Middle Eastern descent preferred, although we're open to other options).
MICHELLE: late 30's/early 40s, alto, (F#3-C#5), any ethnicity - Mid-level management for a large corporation who's had to sacrifice her empathy in favor of productivity. She's been drinking the kool-aid just long enough to forget people are more than just numbers.
FATHER/SATAN: mid-late 50s, Black, bass (E2-E4) - A lapsed minister who's been estranged from his son for years. An addict. He could be the villain, or he could be making the best of the hellish situation in which he finds himself. Seeking an actor with expert command of both maniacal gravitas and genuine vulnerability.
RUTH: 20s, any vocal range, any ethnicity - A "young professional" having the optimism beaten out of her with each office job she gets... and then loses. She's been let go several times, and is now approaching her breaking point.
4 ENSEMBLE MEMBERS (SATB) - POC as well as trans and non-binary performers are particularly encouraged to submit. We'd like to build an ensemble of diverse voices to accurately embody present-day NYC and its multitude of voices.
Rehearsals will be scheduled based on each individual's availability, and will take place in Manhattan beginning mid-February. Performers will be expected to practice vocal parts at home once they've been taught by our Music Director in order to maximize productivity on days the full cast is called.
The first table read is on Thursday February 13th (11am-2pm).
Our performance is Friday March 21st at 9:30pm with a soundcheck from 3 - 4:15pm.
Please send us a video/link to you singing about a minute of a contemporary musical theatre song (think Next to Normal, Jesus Christ Superstar, Tommy, Hedwig and the Angry Inch) that showcases acting as much as vocal ability.
We may not hold in-person auditions, so it would be incredibly helpful if you can also include an acting reel AND/OR self-tape of a short dramatic monologue. Send the above along with your head shot and resume to email@example.com
