Shakespeare In Carroll Park Assistant Program
Each year, NYIT-award winning theater company Smith Street Stage hires a group of talented and committed students and early career professionals to participate in our Assistant Program. These Assistants become part of the Shakespeare in Carroll Park company, and are given the opportunity to learn about and participate in the process of producing theater in NYC. For our 9th season, Smith Street Stage will be performing A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Carroll Park and then moving our production to The Mark O’Donnell Theater at The Actor’s Fund.
In the past, assistants have served as backstage crew, assistants to our stage managers, marketing team and production designers, and they often perform in the production alongside the Company! We look for young theater artists interested in increasing their understanding of the process of producing theater in New York City and who are excited to help us in our mission of providing accessible and consequential theater arts to our community. A small stipend is available for our assistants.
To submit yourself for an audition and/or interview, contact firstname.lastname@example.org with a headshot/photograph, resume, and a cover letter expressing why you’re interested in joining our team! Interviews for our Assistant positions will be held in late February and early March, TBD. Applicants interested in being considered for performance opportunities will also need to audition with a brief monologue, preferably Shakespeare.
As part of the company and our production crew, assistants will be expected to attend tech and all performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as well as scheduled rehearsals subject to cast and crew assignments and the needs of the production. Other assignments and learning opportunities will be ongoing during the pre-production and rehearsal period.
