DESCRIPTION

The Builders Association is a NYC-based performance and media company its 25th year. Based on innovative collaborations, the company blends performance, text, video, sound and architecture to tell stories about human experience in the 21st century. 

 

The Builders are seeking a TECHNICAL DIRECTOR to join the company as we remount our production ELEMENTS OF OZ this December at the Skirball Center, and for potential national and international touring in 2020.  

 

DATES OF POSITION: Start ASAP. Show dates: November 20 - December 8, with a holiday break Nov 27 - Dec 1.  

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

*Act as liaison with video, scenic, lighting, and sound designers and determine in consultation with the Production Manager, the technical and budgetary feasibility of scene, prop, and lighting designs

*Supply technical information and budget estimates for production projections

*Determine construction methods, schedules, materials, and mechanics for the scenic design of each production

*With Production Manager and overhire crew as needed, complete the construction of all scenic elements

*Produce construction drawings as needed

*Supervise all ins and outs, insure proper functioning and safety of all moving scenic elements if necessary

*Assist Production Manager as needed with tour preparation (US and overseas)

*Maintain and enforce schedules for all load-ins and strikes

*Ensure budgetary control of materials and labor for all productions and assigned projects

*Recommend candidates for overhire crew to the Production Manager

*With Production Manager, assist in coordination of equipment transfers in/out of storage facilities in NYC and CT as needed

*Any other duties required, commensurate with the scope of the role

 

Skills required

*Experience in technical theater in both producing and touring (US and overseas) environments

*Carpentry skills

*A flexible DIY approach to working

*CAD skills

*Supervisory and leadership skills

*Demonstrable experience in the production and management of budgets

*The ability to work well under pressure

*Commitment to finding innovative and reliable solutions to the challenges of design and delivery of the company’s work

*Valid driver’s license, comfortable driving trucks in urban areas
