NOTE:
The Drowning Girls is inspired by the Scotland Yard case of the notorious serial killer George Joseph Smith and his victims, the “brides of the bathtub.” While the historical figures of Bessie, Alice and Margaret were white women, women of all races are strongly encouraged to audition.
Actors must be comfortable working with water on stage. NO submerging will be required.

BESSIE
female, early 30’s, any ethnicity, open to every body type, good mover. A romantic, dreams of a wedding and of being the center of attention, traditional, loving, delicate, sensitive, and susceptible. Also plays: GEORGE, JOHN, ALICE’S FATHER, DR. BILLINGS, MRS. RAPLEY, AMELIA, MARKS, and SERGEANT PAGE.
NOTE: Actors of color are strongly encouraged to apply. Actors must be comfortable working with water on stage. NO submerging will be required.

ALICE
female, mid to late 20’s, any ethnicity, open to every body type, good mover. Bold, swept off her feet, rebellious, dreams of freedom, youthful, audacious, spirited, and fierce. Also plays: JOHN, GEORGE, HENRY, MRS. TUCKETT, MRS. CROSSLEY, JANE, INSPECTOR NEIL, and MR. BODKIN.

MARGARET
female, late 30’s to early 40’s, any ethnicity, open to every body type, good mover. Desperately wants to feel wanted, fears becoming an old maid, practical, lonely, guarded, modest, and worried. Also plays: HENRY, GEORGE’S MOTHER, ALICE’S MOTHER, MRS. BLATCH, SERGEANT REID, KNOWLES, JOHN, and MS. BRIGHTON.
