Development Intern – Spring 2019
Theatre Forward, based in New York City, is an association of 19 leading resident theatres from coast to coast. The mission of Theatre Forward is to advance American theatre and its communities by providing funding and other resources to our theatres. Theatre Forward seeks a development intern to join our dedicated team as we continue to diversify our funding base.
For someone interested in getting first-hand practical experience in development, this will be an opportunity to build a portfolio on all aspects of fundraising: corporate, foundation, individual, special events and database management. A major part of our activities will be researching foundations’ and corporations’ priorities and assessing how arts education and theatre engagement activities fit with those guidelines. We are looking for someone who is willing to think creatively about connecting various missions and objectives to devise a coherent case for support.
Other duties include, but are not limited to, institutional and individual research, grant writing, networking with prospects, administrative support and other assigned tasks.
Candidate should be available a minimum of 15-20 hours per week during the spring. Dates and schedule are flexible, with assistance required at the occasional evening event. Our regular office hours are Monday- Friday 10am-6pm.
Applicants must be creative thinkers and self-starters with strong communication and computer skills (Excel and Word are essential – Salesforce is helpful), confident phone manner, an interest in learning new skills for prospect analysis and a basic knowledge of undertaking electronic searches.
January – June 2019
The intern will receive a weekly stipend of $50 paid bi-weekly via direct deposit.
Graduate School Credit:
If you are a student seeking to fulfill a credit/course requirement through this internship, the Theatre Forward staff will be happy to fill out any necessary paperwork.
The intern will have the opportunity to work with prominent figures in both the entertainment industry and corporate sector, as well as, experience events and performances related to Theatre Forward activities.
PLEASE SEND A RESUME, COVER LETTER, and YOUR WEEKLY AVAILABILITY TO JOBS@THEATREFORWARD.ORG BY MONDAY, DECEMBER 3. Applicants will be contacted based on a review of the required materials.
