DESCRIPTION

The New York Literary Division of a major talent agency with offices in New York and Los Angeles seeks a Business Affairs/Contracts Manager with at least two/three two years’ work experience.  The Theatrical Literary Division, currently comprised of 9 full time agents, represents Playwrights, Composers, Lyricists, Directors, Designers (all disciplines), Choreographers and many other types of collaborative artists working on Broadway, off-Broadway, in opera, television and film.  Experience and/or knowledge of Theatrical General Management and/or Company Management preferred.  The desk is high volume and requires someone with prior experience in the business side of theatre.

Candidates need the ability to review and negotiate contracts for all areas of live entertainment including Broadway, Regional Theatres, Opera and Dance Companies, as well as some television, film and publishing contract work.  International licensing of plays and musicals will also fall under the purview of this job.  Candidate must demonstrate strong initiative and leadership while also learning on the job.  Legal knowledge and familiarity with similar kinds of contracts is essential, but a law degree is not necessary.  Excellent written and oralcommunication skills a must.  

 

Position responsibilities include review of draft contracts, correspondence and negotiation with Producers, Attorneys, Managing Directors, General Managers and others; familiarity with Subsidiary Rights Agreements and Underlying Rights Agreements; interfacing with unions and guilds, as well as with agency’s Los Angeles literary and legal departments.  With regard tointernational licensing, candidate would field rights requests and negotiate all terms of licenses.
