Submissions from AEA members for various roles. Seeking a diverse, non-traditional cast of collaborative and inventive adult Actor- Musician/Comedian-Clowns who possess the existential disposition and open-hearted spirit of the original Peanuts characters.
See breakdown for more details.
The Peanuts gang comes to life onstage in this whimsical and witty musical! You’ll fall in love all over again with Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Schroeder, Patty and Snoopy as they deal with the joys and frustrations of kites, school, baseball and first love. Featuring a new musical arrangement with actors playing their own instruments.
Seeking a diverse, non-traditional cast of collaborative and inventive adult Actor-Musician/Comedian- Clowns who possess the existential disposition and open-hearted spirit of the original Peanuts characters. We are NOT looking for adults to play children. We are looking to create the feeling and camaraderie of a band – a group of people who love to play together and make music together.
A Note about Actor-Musicians: We will be building this production around this group of actor-musicians therefore we are looking to assemble a group of collaborative and inventive artists willing to play, experiment, and devise a very physical approach to this musical. We have an interest in adding actors who play multiple instruments to the cast. The more adventurous/versatile the actor-musician the better.
A Note about “Comedian/Clowns”: We are looking for strong idiosyncratic comedic personalities who can help us to see the ridiculous and the wonderful in the everyday; actors who can inhabit the contradictory nature of human behavior that Charles Schulz immortalized in The Peanuts characters.
Seeking performers of all ethnicities and gender identities.
All actors must be excellent multi-instrumentalist musicians as well as strong singers. All actors must be able to move very well.
(Late 20s-early 40s) ACOTRS OF ALL GENDER IDENTITIES PLEASE SUBMIT. Patty is a free spirit with a guileless approach to the universe. She is not book-smart but has a quirky and assured sense of her own intelligence. In her mind she is an authority on almost everything and knows how to take charge. She speaks with the bluntness of an athletic coach. Patty also has the talent to see the qualities that make people special. Seeking an actor-musician-comedian who is skilled with a variety of instruments, primarily acoustic guitar. Brass and wind instruments a plus.
(Male Identifying, Late 20s-Early 40s) The serious musician. He is aloof, ambitious, and withholding. He has the soul of a tortured artist, the mind of a brooding intellectual, and a wry sense of humor. He is a perfectionist with a deep devotion to his art. He plays emotionally-sophisticated music on his piano that helps him build an almost impenetrable wall against the rest of the world especially the love-struck Lucy. Seeking an actor-musician-comedian who is an excellent piano player and skilled with several other instruments. Also playing brass and wind instruments a plus, but not essential.
(Male Identifying, Late 20s-Early 40s) An extraordinary and highly intelligent creature. Snoopy is part free spirited animal, part self-cast leading man in the movie of his own life, part delightfully self- absorbed narcissist, part doghouse philosopher, part subversive comedian, and part heroic WWII Flying Ace. Snoopy ensures Charlie Brown will never have an ordinary dog. He is wildly talented and usually underappreciated. He is an energetic and loveable dog while also being a deep thinking being. He possesses an arrogant commitment to his independence. He is adolescent, grandiose, understated, revolutionary, joyful, philosophical, spontaneous, highly emotional, and a ferocious exhibitionist. Tap dancing ability is a plus but not required. Seeking an actor-musician-comedian who is a strong percussionist and skilled with a variety of other instruments.
