Job Details
Title Musical Director for 08/09 Season
Category Other
Description The Random Farms Kids Theater (as featured in The New York Times and on NBC's "Today in New York") is a non-profit 501©3 organization dedicated to providing young people with musical theater training and performance opportunities. RFKT is the resident children’s theater at The Tarrytown Music Hall, located in Westchester County, NY. The theater is currently looking for a resident Musical Director for its 2008/2009 season.

All applicants must be high-energy, friendly and excellent with kids.

Upcoming shows include The Wiz, Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz, Grease and Annie. Projects begin in July. A possible children's choir is scheduled for the fall. Rehearsals are held at The Random Farms Performing Arts Center in Elmsford, with dress rehearsals and performances at The Tarrytown Music Hall (aprox. 50 minutes from Grand Central). All shows have multiple casts and are usually divided by age. RFKT has programs for young people in Kindergarten through college.

This is a unique MD position, as the person hired will need to be comfortable working with practice CD’s (with tracked accompaniment) and doing live accompaniment. The MD acts as a vocal coach during rehearsals; the MD will play and/or conduct some shows, but others will have tracks. Applicants with digital sequencing skills are preferred.

Shows rehearse in the evenings (4pm-9pm) and on weekends. An applicant with the availability to work up to five times a week is ideal, but those interested in individual projects will also be considered. Shows with K-8 graders require the Music Director to be involved with light blocking and choreography as well.

Interested candidates should email resume and cover letter to anyawallach@randomfarms.com. Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience. If possible, please note your hourly rate in your cover letter and if you can provide your own transportation. Make sure to mention if you have digital editing/sequencing skills and any experience doing basic blocking and choreography. Please also mention if you have conducting experience or have ever worked with a youth choir.

Interviews will be conducted via phone. Those being further considered will be asked to come to Elmsford in May to do a 30-60 minute work session with a small group of kids. There is no pay for the work session, but there is reimbursement for travel.
