A program of BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn, Celebrate Brooklyn! is the borough’s premiere summer-long performing arts festival presenting a culturally-diverse season of music, dance, spoken word and film in a large outdoor venue. The Festival has a reputation for excellence that attracts 250,000 attendees from across NYC to the Festival’s home at the Prospect Park Bandshell each summer. BRIC Arts | Media | Brklyn is a multi-disciplinary arts and media non-profit, dedicated to presenting visual, performing and media arts programs that are reflective of Brooklyn’s diverse communities and to providing resources and platforms to support the creative process.
Reporting to the Celebrate Brooklyn! Director, the House Manager/Volunteer Coordinator will organize, coordinate and administer Celebrate Brooklyn!’s on-site front-of-house venue operations. This position begins April 15 and is predominantly off site until the festival begins on June 12. The House Manager must work on site at all performances, most Thursday, Friday and Saturdays (6/12-8/9) usually 5PM till midnight. Some off-site work continues during the 9 weeks of the festival.
Responsibilities include:
• Advance hiring, scheduling and orientation, for a House Staff of 8 including additional substitutes.
• Advance recruitment of at least 15 volunteers for each performance utilizing email and web-based postings, and scheduling volunteers for each performance thru our web-based database.
• Time-keeping for House Staff on a daily basis at all performances.
• Direct supervision and management of audience donation collected by House Staff at venue entrances; festival merchandise sales and artists’ consignment sales by Merchandise/Store Manager; various duties for Volunteers at venue entrances; reserved seating areas;, and as needed elsewhere on the site.
• Collection of audience names, addresses, email for database
• On-site distribution of brochures, programs, promotional items, mailing list info, membership info and other information at entrances and/or merchandise/store area.
• Coordination with Celebrate Brooklyn Sponsorship Manager to utilize Volunteers to distribute sponsor giveaways and assist in set-up and breakdown of various site needs on a show-by-show basis.
• Coordination with development staff to assist with implementing an annual audience survey.
The ideal candidate will have 3 years+ experience as a Front-of-House Manager in a theater environment and a strong ability to recruit, organize and direct staff. Strong verbal communication skills; organizational skills, and a professional presence required.
Compensation: Total compensation for the work and schedule described above will be $6,000. Payment schedule is negotiable. This is a salaried exempt position.
