Title ADV: LightBox Approach Weekend Workshop
Category Other
Description "Physical Approaches to Classic Texts: Macbeth"

This two-day intensive explores Shakespeare's Macbeth using the LightBox Approach, a cross-cultural method of actor training that encourages physicality, theatricality, deep listening, and generosity within the collaborative process.

Developed over the last ten years by Ellen Beckerman and the LightBox ensemble, the LightBox Approach nourishes the individual artist while teaching the art of collaboration, cultivating a group dynamic in which every participant is a co-creator. We then use physicality as an entry point to investigate character, relationship, and the world of the play in order to generate a surprising, dynamic staging.

Open to writers, actors, directors, dramaturgs, and designers. Class limit 16.

June 7-8, 2008, 10am-5pm, $325
Midtown Manhattan

Led by Producing Artistic Director Ellen Beckerman and Associate Artistic Director Shawn Fagan

LightBox creates ensemble-driven, physical performances that speak to issues of our time. Along with creating new work, LightBox adapts classic plays: its repertoire includes Hamlet, Gull (adapted from Chekhov's The Seagull), Ajax: 100% Fun (adapted from Sophocles' Ajax), Charles Mee's Orestes, and Mother Courage and Her Children. Other productions include Milk-N-Honey, Shutter, Fanatics, Embarkation, and 365 Days/365 Plays by Suzan-Lori Parks.

"The work of LightBox is smart, beautiful, innovative and fun. An extraordinary company!" - Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director, The Public Theater

"The LightBox Workshop was one of the most nourishing artistic experiences I've had in theatre." - Debbie Saivetz, Director
