Title ACE - Equity Principal Auditions
Category Performer
Description ACE - Equity Principal Auditions

Signature Theatre Arlington VA SPT (approval/salary level pending. 2007-08 salary: $538/week min).
Artistic Director/Stage Director: Eric D. Schaeffer
Associate Director/Casting: Michael Baron (at EPA)
Music: Robert Taylor
Book/Lyrics: Richard Oberacker
Musical Director: David Kreppell
Musical Staging: Karma Camp

1st rehearsal: July 28, 2008. Rehearses in NYC until August 16, then moves to Arlington VA. Runs August 26 - September 28. May extend to October 12.

Seeking:

Danny: Boy, age 10. Great emotional strength, with a tough exterior masking a vulnerable heart. Must be a strong actor and able to carry the show – rarely not on stage. Alto belt to D flat.

Ace: Late 20s. Pilot. Danny’s father; spiritual guide for Elizabeth and Danny as the story unfolds. Charismatic and dashing but sensitive, with darker shades and inner conflicts. Lyric baritone to G.

Elizabeth: Appears variously ages 18, 24 and 35. Danny’s mother. A most complex woman emotionally; displays extremes from the highs of strong confidence to the lows of self-doubt and grief. A leading lady of depth, mystery and sympathy. Mezzo belt to D flat, legit to A flat.

John Robert: Late 20s, early 30s. Pilot from a humble family in the Midwest. Heroic and genuine – the essence of American potential. Ace’s father. Tenor to B.

Ruth: Appears variously ages 19, 28, and 44. John Robert’s love interest, a woman of exceptional Midwestern breeding and class. She is a risk-taker and ahead of her time, but is a staunch nationalist with frightening displays of iron will in matters of family honor. Ace’s mother. Soprano to A, belt to D flat.

Mrs. Crandall: Late 30s/early 40s. Compassionate social worker w/the possibility for eccentricity. Soprano to G.

Emily: Girl, age 11. Precocious, imaginative and self-aware. Overcomes her awkward appearance with humor, confidence and a sense of loyalty. Belt to E flat.

Louise: Mid 30s. Danny’s foster mother, consumed with measuring up to the expectations of the perfect 1950’s housewife and mother. Strong comic sensibilities and self-awareness. Mezzo with belt to D flat.

Edward: Mid 30s. Louise’s husband. Thoughtful man in the manner of Jimmy Stewart at that age. Baritone.
