Seeking:
Esther Blodgett: Woman, 30s, any ethnicity. Small-time singer in a nightclub band act who never imagines that one day she will achieve international stardom. Norman recognizes her immense talent, falls in love with her and makes her a star. Ultimately, her success causes a conflict in her relationship with Norman. She is a street girl, open, warm and has an immense emotional capacity. Performer must have a fantastic singing voice with range. LEAD.
Matt Libby: Man, 40s, any ethnicity. The studio publicist. A press animal; gets the job done, whatever it takes. Cynical and tough. Confronting Norman when he at his lowest, he tells him that he is loser. There is dark, underlying jealousy for Norman and his career. Performer must have a strong, full and character baritenor/tenor singing voice. SUPPORTING.
Oliver Niles: Caucasian man, 60s. Head of Warner Brothers Studios. Very confident, and all about the work. Also has the smarts to know when things are right or wrong, and how to fix them. Non- singing role. SUPPORTING.
Danny McGuire: Man, 30s - 40s, any ethnicity. Jazz musician in the band with Esther. A good guy who never admits to being in love with her. Their simple chemistry is evidence that they should really be together. Performer should have a lovely, mellow jazz singing voice. MUST play the guitar; piano is a plus. SUPPORTING.
Norman Maine: CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements. Caucasian man, 40s. Every inch a movie star, Norman is much more than just another pretty face. He is charm personified. His struggles with alcohol make him appear difficult and arrogant, but he finds love and purpose in his relationship with Esther. However, his addictions still control his life, and in an effort to protect Esther from them, he kills himself. Actor must have a terrific singing voice and personality. LEAD.
