Seeking:


Hatsue:

Asian female, early 20s-early 30s. Character’s age ranges in the play from 10 to 31 years old. Beautiful Japanese girl, with a subtle and complex inner life, and an external grace and stillness.


Ishmael:

Caucasian male, early 20s-early 30s. Character's age ranges in the play from 10 to 31 years old. He begins the play as an idealistic young dreamer (who falls in love with Hatsue), but after he’s injured in WWII, becomes an embittered journalist in a small town. Handsome in an unlikely way, complex, brainy, tortured.


Fujiko & Others:

Asian female, late 40s-late 50s. The principal role, Fujiko, is a very traditional Japanese woman who emigrated to American with her family in the early part of the 20th century. Strong, conservative, watchful, wary. Also plays two other roles.


Zenihichi & Others:

Asian male, late 40s-late 50s. The principal role, Zenihichi, is a quiet agreeable Japanese farmer, who tries to work within the system to build a better life for his family. Also plays two other roles.


Carl Jr. & Others:

Caucasian male, early 20s-early 30s. Character's age ranges in the play from 16 to early 30s. The principal role, Carl Jr., is a former high school football player, now he’s a solo salmon fisherman. Quiet, stubborn, physically powerful. Actors also plays several other different roles.


Alvin & Others:


Caucasian male, mid 50s-mid 60s. The principal role, Alvin, is a bulldog prosecutor from a small town who is both smart and cynical. Actor also plays several other different roles.
