StudentsLive, the Premiere 14 year old Award Winning Global Broadway Education Company in conjunction with their Sister Company Passport to Broadway, is seeking an experienced, and dynamic Musical Director with Broadway (or comparable) successful track record and excellent Teaching Skills for their Tenth Annual South Korean International Musical Theater Intensive held at Pearl Broadway Rehearsal Studios in Manhattan for three and a half weeks, July 29 to August 21 2013, Rehearsals take place Monday through Friday Mornings, 8:00am to 1:00pm, post from 1:00pm to 2:00pm each day. Final performance for invited Broadway VIPs, tech and dress schedule in evenings: August 19th and August 20th, Farewell Luncheon August 21st. Final Performance in an Off-Broadway Theater.
Pre Production Meetings to learn show, arrange and modify existing creative and educational materials as well as attendance at/Teacher/Curriculum Development Meetings required from April to star date of Workshop. Approximately 10 to 12 hours per week. Specific schedule generally on Wednesday and Thursday daytime, some evenings ( Weekday and Weeknight flexibility and availability required)
Mission: PASSPORT TO BROADWAY- Musical Theatre Workshop & Performance will include rehearsals with a Professional Musical Director, Choreographer and Director assisted by Professional Teaching Artists hired and trained in detailed curriculum and teaching methods. Goals include helping International Students use Musical Theatre/ Arts Education Methods to improve English Language Skills and become familiar and competitive within American Cultures and Expression through access to and learning from exceptional Teaching Professionals in the Broadway Community. Creative Team must learn and enhance the Teaching Philosophies of StudentsLIve and Passport to Broadway, give students a meaningful and joyful experience, build self confidence and esteem, as well as create an exceptional Final Musical Theater Presentation.
Also includes an interactive resource guide with historical, theatrical background information to offer socially and culturally relevant theater programming that allows young students affiliated with their respective international schools and organizations the opportunity to explore and express the themes of the selected Broadway show Materials as it applies to their own nations, social, cultural and political themes and issues.. These programs expand and deepen student’s understanding, appreciation and exposure to these powerful social historical, cultural messages through excellent and related theatre arts programming and allow them a collaborative creative expression for same, while inspire passion and appreciation in the arts and the enormous positive impact and messages this process instills in all of the students who participate in the final performance. To also offer socially and culturally relevant theater programming that allows young students affiliated with international like minded organizations and students in South Korea the opportunity to explore and express the themes of international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations, social progress, better living standards and human rights through similarly related live interactive Broadway theatre education materials and curriculum, taught by the Best, Highly Trained Specialists and Broadway Theater Artists our country has to offer. This program allows these students to experience the best of Broadway’s portfolio; classical and contemporary plays, musicals, educational resources and artists in conjunction with their studies in school and to learn the myriad skills required in collaboration, interrelation, communication and human exploration.
Requirements:
Excellent familiarity and experience in playing and teaching a wide range of Broadway Show Material to young students.
MD/Conducting/Arranging Broadway Show Experience a plus.
Ability and openness to learn, prepare, train and work closely with SL, P2B Artistic Director and Choreographer to fulfill and
enhance the fast paced Performance/Process Goals and Mission.
Excellent Piano Skills.
Excellent teaching,
communication,collaboration skills.
Passion for working with and educating children ages 10 to 18, (Mostly beginners in Musical Theater Training).
Exceptional people skills, humor, positive outlook and grace under pressure
Ability to follow direction, learn and execute new methods of teaching.
High energy and an ability to inspire and capture the imagination and attention of a cast of young children daily.
Bringing creative ideas and educational suggestions to the table, excellent hands-on problem solving skills and a desire to go above and beyond to produce an inspiring final performance with limited English speaking, generally and culturally reserved international students on a tight timeline.(Translators used only when absolutely necessary.)
Commitment to collaboration and a myriad of process and goal oriented teaching strategies that will be honed and developed with
SL to produce a like minded and cohesive Musical Theater Teaching and Leadership Team.
Qualifications:
Experience in and with music computer software and vocal recording capacity ( Finale preferred) to modify and update professional lead sheets, conductor's score, rehearsal piano tracks/ vocal recordings.
Must have contacts with Drummers/Percussionists to recommend for Final Performance
Fluent and comfortable in individual effective and organized Broadway style vocal ensemble/principle singing techniques.
In depth knowledge of Company's Original Medley/Compilation Journey to America of existing arrangement of 30/40 Broadway Songs for 45 Parts. (Script, Score and Lead Sheets are already fully staged,scored and prepped. MD learns,modifies,updates and improves material under the direction of Creative Team. 45 students onstage at all times performing simultaneously for entire 60 minute presentation. Students will be cast on day one and made to feel at ease during auditions and ongoing teaching methods.)
Familiarity and/or experience with a diverse range of international populations, specifically Asian speaking and understanding abilities.
