The Public Theater seeks a detail-oriented team player to join a four person team that handles all the publicity for The Public Theater’s downtown shows at Astor Place as well as Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte and additional Public programming like Public Forum, Emerging Writers Group, New Work Now, Under the Radar, etc.
This position reports to the Director of Communications.
Responsibilities:
• Assisting with press interviews at the theater and off-site
• Managing all aspects of playbill production
• Maintaining media list and photo and print archives
• Assisting with press nights, photo calls and video shoots
• Assisting photographers/press at opening nights, galas, etc.
• Proofreading all press and marketing materials
• Monitoring chat rooms, twitter, blog sites
• Managing daily industry news updates
• Distributing media clips to staff and managing press clips for artists
• Confirming press seats and coordinating locations with the box office
• Taking all press reservations and sending reminders for performances
• Compiling press kits and distributing photos, scripts for reviews
• Editing all additional materials in support of programming, including compiling transcripts
• Organizing award nominators into eligible shows
• Corresponding with media about Public Theater shows and history
• Researching archival questions about The Public Theater
• Researching and expanding media list
• Monitoring stories for inaccuracies
Requirements:
Qualified candidates must have 2-3 years office experience, and have MS word, excel, and outlook experience (Tessitura a plus). Must be highly-motivated and organized; be comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-specific environment; possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; be good at multi-tasking and a be a team player; willing to work evenings and weekends based on show needs; have a knowledge of New York theater; and possess a positive attitude in a hard-working environment.
