Queens Theatre seeks dynamic, highly skilled, creative teaching artists in the fields of Theatre and Dance for Part Time/Seasonal Employment for the 2013-2014 season.
Queens Theatre (QT) is the premier performing arts venue in Queens. QT’s mission is to provide quality and diverse performing arts activities that are economically and geographically accessible to the 2.2 million residents of Queens, the most ethnically diverse county in the nation, and the surrounding metropolitan region. To foster greater cultural awareness and appreciation, the Theatre presents and produces programs that reflect this diversity and features international, national and local artists. The QT Education Department strives tocreate learning opportunities through theatre and dance that will engage students across cultures in the transformative experience of participating in the performing arts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
• Demonstrates skills/training and professional experience in the performing arts
• College degree
• Teaching experience in the arts (previous work in New York City public schools a plus)
• Experience working with diverse populations and a range of grade levels
• Experience in developing Performing Arts curriculum and lesson planning
• On-going commitment and availability for expanding teaching skills through professional development, cooperative curriculum planning, reflection and feedback.
Desired:
• Experience in playwriting, directing, multidisciplinary arts.
• Able to teach in languages other than English, including American Sign Language
• Experience teaching with various populations, i.e., early childhood, students with disabilities, English Language Learners, students who are deaf and hard of hearing, etc.
• Experience teaching in after school programs.
REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS:
1. A resume demonstrating training and experience as both an artist and a teacher.
2. A residency outline for a two week – four session workshop in a discipline of theatre or dance.
Your lesson plan should include lesson goals/objectives, activities and reflections.
Lesson plans must be interactive, age-appropriate and designed to highlight an applicant’s
particular artistry, classroom experience and approach to school-based work.
3. Artistic Work Sample: A work sample that demonstrates your abilities and achievements as an artist. This sample does not need to be for kids or families; it should be representative of your own artistic work. May include but not be limited to: video, audio, production photos or scripts.
Work samples will be accepted in the following formats:
1.Preferred: Links to online video, audio, print or slide-shows of work samples.
2. Submit/attach a separate document labeled, “Work Sample”.
3. Digital images: Attach up to 5 images.
4. Copies of literary work: Submit up to 5 pages.
Optional: QT will also accept an additional work sample to demonstrate teaching artist work in a Pre-K-12 classroom.
