Breakdown

Seeing a diverse cast and interested in casting ALL ethnicities.

King Alonso (50s-60s) — Male. King of Naples; regal, wealthy, dynamic, powerful and strong leader but weakened by grief for the loss of his son.

Sebastian (mid 40s-early 50s)Male. Younger brother to Alonso; bored, sarcastic and slothful; dreams of power but unable to act on his own.

Prospero (50s-60s) —Male. The rightful Duke of Milan. A magician who is regal, charismatic, and powerful. He is extremely angry and resentful but with a great capacity for love; chooses redemption and forgiveness in the end.

Antonio (50s) — Male. Usurping Duke of Milan; supplanted his brother Prospero; proud, scheming and conspiratorial.


Ferdinand ( 20s) — Male Son to Alonso and Prince of Naples; regal, forthright, honest; a hard worker and honorable; falls in love with Miranda.

Gonzalo (60s) — Male. Senior Counselor to the King; honest and trustworthy, dreamer and idealist; strong moral code but a bit of an unwitting fool.

Caliban (20s-30s) — Male. A man of the island; primitive, bestial and savage but naïve and childlike with a great capacity for wonder; lusts after Miranda.

Trinculo(20s-40s) — Male. A jester; simple and easily led, nervous and cowardly.

Stephano (30s-40s) — Male. A butler; a drunkard and glutton, full of himself, greedy, not too bright but fancies himself shrewd.

Miranda (20s) — Female. Daughter to Prospero; raised on the island; innocent, charming, full of grace and goodwill. At times the spirit of Ariel possesses her. Must be a strong physical actor and singer.

Ariel (20s-30s) — 3 Actors Female or Male. Three different aspects of Ariel on the island; unearthly and magical, desires his/her freedom, must be strong physical actors (Lecoq/modern dance background) and strong singers.

Boatswain (20s-40s) — Male. Seaman; strong, straightforward, no-nonsense, a workingman.
