New York Theatre Workshop, an award-winning Off-Broadway theatre company, seeks interns for Fall 2013 in the following departments:

Casting
Fund Development
Marketing/Special Events
General Management
Production Management
Technical Direction
Costume Shop

We seek passionate and motivated college students, graduate students, and recent graduates interested in careers in arts administration. We are looking for self-directed candidates who are interested in learning from theatre professionals and contributing to a vibrant downtown community of artists.

Fall 2013 internship terms run from early September through late December. Depending on departmental needs, extensions and flexibility are possible. Interns must be available a minimum of 3 full days (24 hours) per week. NYTW offers a monthly MetroCard, plus academic credit if applicable.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTIONS:

Casting Interns work directly with our Casting Director to help coordinate and run auditions, as well as maintain casting databases. The casting intern communicates directly with agents, managers, and actors regularly.

Fund Development Interns learn the ins and outs of fundraising by assisting with grant writing, benefit and event planning, donor relations, and opening nights. Interns gain an understanding of research, cultivation strategies and experience with key fundraising tracking tools.

Marketing/Special Events Interns gain hands-on experience planning and executing special events; engaging audiences through grassroots marketing, online tactics, and social media strategies; assisting with press relations, graphic design software and box office and ticketing platforms.

General Management Interns work directly with the Managing Director and General Manager and gain relevant skills in producing and arts management, including budgeting, contract administration, human resources, box office, and front of house management. General Management Interns will also assist with company management for each production and learn the ins and outs of communication with all major theatrical unions.

Production Management Interns work closely with the Production Manager to help conduct research into all aspects of production, keep track of production and facilities budgets, and attend meetings with top designers, stage managers, and crew.

Technical Direction Interns assist the Technical Director with coordination of builds and strikes, maintenance of equipment and materials, and construction of scenic elements. Carpentry experience is essential, and interns focus on developing technical skills.

Costume Shop Interns assist the Shop Manager with the coordination of builds and strikes, maintenance of costumes, shop space, equipment and materials. Interns assist with wardrobe management, rentals, and develop sewing skills. Interns also create and maintain NYTW’s database of costume rentals, completing research and cataloguing costume pieces.
