The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) serves as a model for programming, audience diversity, education initiatives, and as a catalyst in returning nightlife and economic activity to its hometown of Newark, New Jersey. Proposed by former New Jersey Governor Thomas H. Kean in 1986, NJPAC raised its curtain on October 18, 1997, making it one of the largest performing arts centers in the United States.
NJPAC is a world-class and community-based cultural venue, showcasing the best artists of national and international acclaim as well as top artists from the State of New Jersey. Since its grand opening, NJPAC has attracted over 6 million patrons (including more than one million children), and welcomed renowned artists, cultural icons, two presidents, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and presented many of the world's most cherished orchestral, dance, theater, and popular artists.
We are presently recruiting for the position of Associate Director, Community Engagement & Promotions
Position Summary:
The Associate Director of Community Engagement & Promotions is responsible for developing marketing strategies for NJPAC presented Pop shows specifically for the purpose of audience engagement. This includes researching, cultivating and growing community networks and creating promotions and sales events/activities to increase institutional awareness, build loyalty and increase ticket sales.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop audience engagement goals and strategies to deepen existing relationships
and reach new audiences for NJPAC performances and programs. Coordinate
efforts with the Marketing and Sales team to achieve sales goals associated with
audience building.
• Manage a portfolio of community relationships critical to the expansion of the NJPAC market and ticket sales.
• Manage all Advisory Councils, including but not limited to the Latino Advisory Council, the LGBT Community Council, the Faith Based Council, the Corporate Council along with key leaders from specific, targeted communities.
• Develop and implement comprehensive promotional plans, communicate and negotiate with radio stations, TV stations, online outlets and all other media outlets that will be engaged for a particular event.
• Initiate outreach strategies to grow audience via all marketing outlets
• Manage cross-sell opportunities
• Manage community engagement & promotions portion of the marketing budget
• Develop and coordinate execution of high visibility promotions to advance institutional awareness and accessibility and increase ticket sales including:
- cross promotions with media and other consumer businesses
- special promotional events and activities
- development of on-air promotions, ticket giveaways, in association with media buys
- remote Box Office visits
- ongoing cultivation of existing promotional and finding new promotional partners
• Develop relationships with media reps in all formats that enhance the value of
both promotions and paid schedules.
• Research grassroots media, community festivals and distribution outlets to build new audiences that are not currently in the database and expanding the ticket sales of repeat customers.
• Make presentations and cultivate targeted audiences with a focus on increasing capacity for performances. Presentations should be made regularly to sororities, fraternities, school PTA groups, and other cultural, civic, political organizations and small businesses.
• Cultivate and expand College Student Ticket Rush program.
• Develop audience engagement goals and strategies to deepen existing relationships and reach new audiences for NJPAC performances and programs. Coordinate efforts with the Marketing and Sales team to achieve sales goals associated with audience building.
• Work closely with the Group Sales team.
Qualifications and Special Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience required, preferably in community outreach, and/or promotions and sales
• Familiarity with Newark and surrounding communities preferred
• Ability to work with diverse constituencies
• Creative and outgoing professional with strong presentations skills
• Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with multiple projects
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must have a valid driver license and transportation means for outside work
• Ability to speak Spanish preferred but not required
• Must be available for select weeknight/weekend performances and events
