Breakdown
BILL:
Caucasian. 50's - mid 60's. A former OB-GYN turned politician, now resigned from his political position after being caught in a prostitution scandal. Handsome, charming, outgoing, supremely verbal and at the same time somewhat self-pitying and devious. Alternately filled with righteous anger directed at a (perceived) world of women that has kept him down and at the same time terrified of the wrath of his wife and daughters.
JUDY:
Caucasian. 50’s. BILL's wife, a professional fundraiser, on the board of every charitable organization, composed, wickedly smart and now filled with laser-like rage at her husband for the humiliation he has put her through. Role is cast
CASEY:
Caucasian. 17. Bill and Judy’s daughter. High school junior at an elite girl’s school. Flawlessly groomed, effortlessly confident, with the morals of a snake. Hyper-articulate, super-smart and defiant.
CASSIDY:
Asian-American. . 13. Bill and Judy’s adopted younger daughter. Bookish, asthmatic, withdrawn, observant. Possibly bulimic. She delivers a lengthy science-class presentation on animal sexuality.
BOBBIE:
Female. Caucasian. 35-45 yrs. old. Defense lawyer, attractive, hyper-capable, with a tendency to come unraveled when she drinks. Judy’s somewhat younger protégé and confidante, she becomes increasingly defensive as she mishandles BILL and JUDY’s case.
TRANSSEXUAL:
Latina. 20’s – 30’s. Played by Male actor. Pre-operative male-to-female transsexual, with breast implants, living as a woman. Probably Dominican – under-educated but unaware of it. Hyper-opinionated and deeply offended by BILL’s condescending attitude toward her gender-identity. May double with additional non-speaking roles.
Also Seeking:
5 ACTORS - EACH TO PLAY MULTIPLE ROLES:
ACTOR ONE – Mid 40’s – 50’s
JACKIE: Female. Caucasian. Late 40’s – 50’s. Mother of BECKY (see below) Lower-middle class. Probably Midwestern or small-town Pennsylvania accent. Not overly educated, garrulous, and with a tendency to spontaneously break down in tears.
PATIENT: Female. 30’s – 40’s. A slightly uptight woman in an examination gown at BILL’s clinic. Judgmental of BILL and unwilling to let him examine her.
ACTOR TWO – 60’s – 70’s
SHRINK: Female. Any ethnicity. 50’s – 60’s. Serene, focused on JUDY.
ED: Female. BILL’s mother. Caucasian. 60’s – 80’s. Talkative, breezy, liberal both in politics and worldview. She is philosophical about her son’s affairs and utterly casual about his treatment of JUDY.
PAT: Female. 40’s – 60’s. Responsible, reasonable. A physician and BILL’s successor at his women’s clinic since his departure years earlier. Compassionate to BILL, but she has her limit.
ACTOR THREE – 20’s
BARTENDER: Female. Any ethnicity, 20’s. Attractive, bored by BILL. Possibly tattooed.
BECKY: Female. Caucasian. 20’s. Former prostitute who, when we first see her, is confined to a reclining wheelchair in a locked-in comatose state due to an encounter with BILL. Later she recovers and speaks with a hint of a regional accent, like her mother.
TOUR GUIDE: Female. Early 20’s, probably Caucasian, but not necessarily. Enthusiastic, positive. Leading CASEY on a campus tour.
SERVER: Female. Any ethnicity. 20’s – 40’s. A server at an ice cream shop a la Serendipity, who has to negotiate a tricky situation with BILL and his daughters.
ACTOR FOUR – 40’s – 50’s
PILAR: Female. Latina. Late 30’s - early 50’s. JUDY and BILL’s maid, a fixture in their household since the girls were small. Speaks Spanish
JUDGE : Female. Late 40’s. Any ethnicity. Patient, unruffled.
PRINCIPAL: Female. Any ethnicity. Late 40’s – 60’s. Patient, soft-spoken, unmarried.
ACTOR FIVE – 30’s – 40’s
D.A.: Female. Late 30’s – 50’s. Any ethnicity. Combative, defiant.
TALK SHOW HOST: Female. African-American. 30’s – 40’s. Basically, Oprah Winfrey.
COP: Female. 40’s. Any ethnicity. Tough. Skeptical of BILL’s story.
