Two River Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, develops and produces new works and world masterpieces on two stages in a state-of-the-art theater complex in Red Bank, NJ. The Literary Manager oversees Two River’s literary management and dramaturgy, and supports its new-play development initiatives. As a core member of the Artistic Team, the Literary Manager works closely with the Artistic Director and Associate Artistic Director on season planning and artistic programming.
The Literary Manager also works closely with the Marketing and Education departments on audience engagement initiatives.
Specific duties include (but are not limited to) the following:
• Administering the literary office, including managing and evaluating script submissions.
• Maintaining an active pipeline of new-play development projects and activities, including dramaturgical support for readings and workshops.
• Providing dramaturgical research for productions and supplemental activities such as Before Play and Lobby Displays.
• Supporting open rehearsals; collaborations with libraries, universities, and other organizations; program and study guide content; post-show conversations; and other Artistic department activities.
• Managing Local Equity Auditions and Equity Principal Auditions.
• Managing Two River’s Local Artists Network, including overseeing understudies for productions.
• Collaborating with the Marketing and Education departments to support the theater’s current audience engagement activities, and developing and implementing new events and programs.
• Collaborating with the Marketing and Education departments on promotional events, online strategies, schools residencies, and special programs.
• Maintaining the Artistic department budget and processing check requests.
• Providing general administrative support for the Artistic department and supervising interns.
Requirements:
• Strong knowledge of theater history and dramatic literature.
• Awareness and understanding of contemporary theater and current trends in playwriting.
• Passion for the theater and new work in particular.
• Excellent writing and strong oral communication skills.
• A positive attitude, ability to think creatively, and collaborative work style.
• Should exhibit a high degree of organization, attention to details and ability to multitask.
• Must be proficient with computers (especially Word and Excel).
• Ability to work on selected weekday and weekend evenings required.
• Residency in New Jersey desired.
• High energy and passion for Two River Theater’s mission.
