OTHER DESERT CITIES
(LORT C)
1st Rehearsal:December 3rd, 2013
Opening: January 17th, 2014
Closing: February 27th, 2014

This riveting new play by the creator of TV’s hit drama “Brothers & Sisters” brings dysfunctional family drama to new heights. In their Palm Springs home, ex-Senator Lyman Wyeth and his wife Polly welcome their family home for Christmas for the first time in six years. The reunion seems hopeful, until their daughter announces she’s written a memoir about their family and the incident that changed their lives. With biting wit and razor-sharp insight, Other Desert Cities is “the most richly enjoyable new play for grownups in many a season” (The New York Times).

SEEKING:

NOTE: The director is interested in seeing married couples for the following roles but IT IS NOT ESSNTIAL. Please submit married couples as well as individuals.

POLLY WYETH (Early 60s – Late 70s) Female. Elegant, forthright, whip-smart. The consummate wealthy Reaganite housewife – nothing is ever out of place and her feathers are never ruffled.

LYMAN WYETH (Early 60s – Late 70s) Male. Sturdy in the way of old Californians of a particular type. Described as “oak-like.” A former movie star, he is an aging matinee idol who made a name for himself doing a lot of Westerns in Hollywood. He is kind of like a younger Ronald Reagan.

4000 MILES
(LORT D)
1st Rehearsal: March 11th, 2014
Opening: April 4th, 2014
Closing: April 27th, 2014

Called by TIME magazine “The best play of 2012, hands down,” this funny and moving masterpiece looks at how two outsiders find their way in the world today. 21 year-old Leo has just bicycled 4,000 miles from Seattle to the West Village apartment of his grandmother, Vera. When his overnight sleepover turns into an extended stay, Vera’s surprising political views collide with Leo’s carefree hippie lifestyle and the two become a veritable odd couple. Slowly, Leo begins to reveal the mysterious events of his journey and the two discover the narrow line between growing up and growing old.

SEEKING:

VERA JOSEPH (Please submit actresses mid 60s and above to play Late 70s – Early 90s) Female. Physically tiny and verging on frail, but buoyant of spirit and energy. Forthright and plain spoken. Sharp despite her years.

AMANDA (18 – Mid 20s) Chinese-American. Female. Pretty, fashion-forward, party girl. Giggly and fun. Smart and feisty.

============================================

For the following Shows, seeking 3 actors to be cast in repertory (see breakdown at the end)

1) PHILADELPHIA, HERE I COME
(LORT C)
1st Rehearsal: November 30th, 2013
Opening: January 10th, 2014
Closing: April 12th, 2014

Gar O’Donnell is leaving Ballybeg and the Ireland of his childhood. Leaving his father and the lads. Leaving Kate. For across the ocean there’s a dream of Cadillacs, Coke floats, and girls—a dream of America. The play that established Brian Friel (Dancing at Lughnasa) as one of the greatest theatrical voices of the English language, Philadelphia, Here I Come! paints a touching and humorous portrait of a young man on the verge of a new beginning. Frank Galati injects music and merriment into the storyline with the addition of song, dance and actor/musicians.

NOTE: The play is poetic and funny with a rich musical component. Playing an instrument is a plus. Actors should also be able to sing well.

In addition to the sides, actors should prepare 16 bars of an a cappella folk song. They should also prepare the sides with a Donegal accent.

2) VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE

1st Rehearsal: December 17th, 2013
Opening: January 24th, 2014
Closing: April 13th, 2014

It’s a lovely day at Vanya and Sonia’s farmhouse in Bucks County, PA. But instead of spending the morning strolling through their cherry orchard, these wacky siblings have their hands full with a prophetic cleaning woman, a neighborhood costume party, and a surprise visit from their movie star sister Masha and her studly new boy-toy, Spike. One of the funniest dramatists writing today, Christopher Durang’s latest Broadway hit turns Chekhov on its head and his signature blend of comedy and absurdity has never been more endearing—or relentlessly funny.
