Fundraising Intern

NY Shakespeare Exchange
Category: Internship

Description:

2013 FUNDRAISING INTERN
Following the much-lauded success of last year’s $50,000 Kickstarter campaign, NY Shakespeare Exchange seeks a motivated, early-career fundraising professional to join our 2013 annual fundraising initiative.

NY Shakespeare Exchange, now in its fourth season, is committed to highly theatrical work that generates a fresh understanding of classical theater in today’s world. 2013 projects include productions of Pericles and Othello, our recurring ShakesBEER: NYC’s Original Shakespearean Pub Crawl, and The Sonnet Project (www.SonnetProjectNYC.com), a massive multimedia initiative to create independent films of each of Shakespeare’s sonnets. The films will be released worldwide via the Internet and our specially designed Sonnet Project Mobile App throughout the next year. Read the NY Times article on The Sonnet Project at http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/04/03/taking-shakespeares-sonnets-to-the-streets-of-new-york/.

Our 2013 fundraising will be managed by NYS Licensed Fundraising Counsel Marty Rosen (http://martyrosen.org) who shepherded NYSX to Kickstarter success in 2012. In this position, the fundraising intern will work directly with Rosen, Artistic Director Ross Williams, and the NYSX Board of Directors in crafting and managing a high-energy campaign. The focus of this year’s campaign is to meld the power of crowd-sourced, social media driven fundraising with the more traditional “donor relationship” based approach. By bringing these two techniques together we intend to harness the energy of platforms like Kickstarter and IndieGoGo while still creating an environment conducive to year-over-year institutional growth.

The appropriate candidate should be:
• passionate about theater
• interested in the inner workings of a burgeoning company
• educated in basic fundraising principles
• a creative, out-of-the-box thinker
• computer literate, with regular access to a computer
• familiar with social media platforms
• skilled in writing and communication
• organized, energetic, and intuitive
• a team player

This is an unpaid internship. Time commitment is flexible at approximately 15 hours/week for 10 weeks. The internship is inclusive of three phases: Several weeks of planning/campaign development; the one-month active campaign; and, several weeks of campaign wrap-up.

Send resume, along with e-mails and phone numbers of two references, to Associate Artistic Director Cristina Lundy at Internsearch@ShakespeareExchange.org.
