Technical Director / Master Carpenter


The Stella Adler Studio of Acting is seeking a full time seasonal Technical Director/Master Carpenter to start August 18th

Duties include:

Working with designers to create and execute building plans for scenery

Sourcing and purchasing materials

Building all scenery for student productions

Maintaining a high level of safety in the studios and work areas

Supervising the run of shows as needed

Collaborating with other members of the production department and helping in all areas to ensure successful productions

Occasionally working as a technician to aid the Master Electrician and Prop Master as needed

Managing budgets and expense reports and finding solutions for designers to stay within budget

Working on multiple shows at once (up to 6 shows may be running concurrently)

Creating and managing multiple build and strike schedules

Hiring and supervising overhire labor as needed

Supervising Techs, Dresses, and Performances

Maintaining a clean and organized scene shop

Keeping performance spaces in good working condition at all times

Maintaining a positive working environment and upholding the Studio’s mission

Skills Should Include:

2+ years of scenic carpentry experience, 2+ years of experience in technical theatrical production, basic theatrical sound and lighting knowledge, basic computer skills (Excel, Google docs, etc), organization, efficiency, communication, punctuality, troubleshooting, ability to work as part of a team, leadership, ability to work long hours (often late nights and weekends), ability to stay focused in high stress situations, sense of humor
