The Musical Theatre Factory seeks a Development Intern to join the staff of this exciting new organization. This position will focus on identifying and pursuing development opportunities to support the artistic ventures in Musical Theatre Factory's 2014-15 season. The Intern will gain knowledge of fundraising, and the unique opportunity to create the development program at a brand non-profit organization. The position reports to Managing Director Danny Abosch and will work in collaboration with the MTF Development Team and Artistic Director Shakina Nayfack, as well as our professional development consultants.
The Intern should be highly motivated and self-sufficient, with a passion for new musical theatre and startup organizations. We are looking for someone proficient in grant writing and comfortable discussing charitable donations with private donors. As MTF is still in its first year, much of the job will be creating the position itself--you will get the unique opportunity to build relationships with MTF artists, patrons and prospective donors, and to assist in developing an overall development strategy for the organization.
The Musical Theatre Factory is a new volunteer-based organization dedicated to developing new musical theatre in a collaborative atmosphere free from the pressures of critical or financial success. You will regularly work with our exceptional team of artists and The Musical Theatre Advisory Board, which includes two-time Tony Award winner William Finn, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Joe Iconis, Jennifer Ashley Tepper, and more. You will get hands-on experience in the creation of new musicals, such as our current projects: JUNK, Miles and Me, The Craft, and our 4x15, Writer Showcase, and Factory Salon series.
As the Musical Theatre Factory is a small and strictly volunteer-based organization there is not a monetary stipend for this internship. You will, however, gain very valuable experience creating and leading a crucial department of an emerging theatrical organization. This is no ordinary internship--along with helping to design the development program, you will also work hands-on with up and coming Broadway writers and performers, running events at New York's hottest new musical theatre venue. Every member of the Factory staff has the opportunity to work directly with the creative projects produced throughout the season.
The ideal candidate should be a recent graduate with experience in development and fundraising, and a desire to work in non-profit theatre as a career--though other candidates are welcome to apply.
A full-time intern is preferred, but part-time requests will be considered. The hours are flexible, and we are willing to work with your schedule.
Interested candidates should e-mail a cover letter and resume to email@example.com. Tell us why you're the perfect candidate for this position, and a couple development ideas you would possibly implement as part of the job. We will contact you once we have received your application.
