Seizing the Day, Newsies Creative Team Completes Unfinished Business

Newsies composer Alan Menken, lyricist Jack Feldman and choreographer Christopher Gattelli, along with librettist Harvey Fierstein, wanted much more than to simply transplant the Disney movie musical to the stage. Adding additional songs, fresh characters, new plot points and 2011 choreography, the live Newsies — in its world-premiere production at Paper Mill Playhouse — is a creative "do-over" chance for the team. Expect an homage to the 1992 film's choreography and characters, but also a muscular, fleshed out new approach to the tale newsboys who wage a labor strike in 1890s New York.
