Highlights from Merrily We Roll Along at City Center Encores! Part 1

The Encores! concert production of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth's short-lived but tuneful 1981 Broadway musical Merrily We Roll Along plays New York City Center Feb. 8-19. The cast is headed by Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights) as lyricist Charley Kringas, Colin Donnell (Anything Goes) as songwriter Franklin Shepard, Celia Keenan-Bolger (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) as magazine writer Mary Flynn, Betsy Wolfe (Tales of the City, Everyday Rapture) as Frank's wife Beth, Elizabeth Stanley (Million Dollar Quartet) as Gussie Carnegie (the star of Frank and Charley's first Broadway hit) and Adam Grupper as producer Joe Josephson. In part one of our look at the production, directed by James Lapine and reflecting script and score changes made in the 1980s and '90s, here are the title song, "That Frank," "The Blob," "Not a Day Goes By" and "It's a Hit!"
