New Broadway Streetcar Takes Route Through a Multi-Racial New Orleans

Director Emily Mann (Broadway's Having Our Say, Anna in the Tropics) had a lifelong ambition to direct A Streetcar Named Desire. Blair Underwood always considered Stanley Kowalski one of the three foremost characters in American theatre. With Nicole Ari Parker (Blanche DuBois), Wood Harris (Mitch) and Daphne Rubin-Vega (Stella) accompanying Underwood's Stanley, Tennessee Williams' drama about faded beauty, romantic delusion and violent urges is re-imagined for Broadway in a multi-racial landscape. With an eye toward bringing out black New Orleans, Mann and company are confident the casting will mesh "perfectly" with Williams' themes of survival, endurance and ambition.
