Eric Simonson's biographical Broadway play Magic/Bird, about the iconic players who defined the sport of
basketball in the 1980s, features Kevin Daniels as Earvin "Magic" Johnson (of the Los
Angeles Lakers) and Tug Coker as his on-the-court nemesis and
off-the-court friend, Larry Bird (of the Boston Celtics). Historic footage of games, interviews and a famed commercial is mixed with projections and quick-changes to help tell the story of one of the most memorable
rivalries in sports history. Thomas Kail (Lombardi, In the
Heights) directs a cast that includes Deirdre O'Connell, Peter Scolari,
Rob Ray Manning, Jr. and Francois Battiste, playing multiple roles.
