Highlights From February House at the Public Theater

February House, the new musical by Gabriel Kahane (music and lyrics) and Seth Bockley (book), details life in a Brooklyn Heights boarding house where flamboyant fiction editor George Davis brought together poet W. H. Auden, novelist Carson McCullers, composer Benjamin Britten and burlesque darling Gypsy Rose Lee in a communal utopian experiment. Set during the early days on World War II, the characters struggle with obligations to art and politics and the complexities of romance. Based on the biography by Sherill Tippins, Davis McCallum (Water By the Spoonful, Elliot: A Soldier's Fugue, Sex Lives of Our Parents) directs the co-production between Long Wharf and the Public Theater.
