2012 Tony Awards Preview: Best Revival of a Musical

Evita, with score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, is based on the true story of Eva Duarte, who made her way from obscurity in Argentina to become the almost-sainted First Lady known simply as “Evita.”

Follies, with score by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Goldman, tells the story of former performers who commingle with their old colleagues — and ghosts of their younger selves — at a reunion in their old theatre, which is about to be demolished.

The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, featuring classics like "I Loves You, Porgy" and "Summertime," takes a look at the downtrodden residents of Catfish Row as Bess struggles to escape her possessive lover with the help, and love, of “crippled” beggar Porgy.

Jesus Christ Superstar's rock score — also by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice — tells the story of Jesus' last days on earth as his disciple Judas weighs whether to follow the spiritual leader — or betray him.
