Brian d'Arcy James Covers Steve Winwood in Rehearsals For Under the Influence

Playbill caught up with Broadway's Brian d'Arcy James — the two-time Tony nominee of Shrek and Sweet Smell of Success, and TV's "Smash" — as he rehearsed for his June 26-30 engagement at the speakeasy-styled cabaret room 54 Below. The show, Under the Influence, offers songs reaching back to James' youth, representing the many artists that formed his early musical vocabulary. Expect tunes made popular by artists such as Squeeze, Billy Joel and Todd Rundgren as the core, with a smattering of current material (a cover of Adele!). In the rehearsal studio, James and his nine-piece band rolled through the 1986 Steve Winwood Classic "Take It as It Comes." For tickets and information, click here.
