Playbill Vault: Annie Creators and Andrea McArdle Reminisce About Bringing the Little Orphan to Life

On the occasion of the new 2012 revival of Annie, original star Andrea McArdle, along with two of the musical's creators, Martin Charnin and Charles Strouse, talked with Playbill about their experience bringing the musical to Broadway in 1977. Lyricist and original director Charnin talks about how he first came up with the idea of a musical based on the "Little Orphan Annie" comic strip, and he and composer Strouse offer their recollections on how the song "Tomorrow" came to be in the show. McArdle remembers how she was went from playing The Toughest Orphan in the musical's tryout to the title role on Broadway, and her favorite people and experiences from her time in the role.
