Highlights From the Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots at La Jolla Playhouse

Oklahoma-born psychedelic indie rock band The Flaming Lips supply the music and lyrics to Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, a new musical based on the band's 2002 concept album of the same name. Directed by Des McAnuff, the book is by McAnuff and Wayne Coyne, the Flaming Lips' lead singer and guitarist. Kimiko Glenn (LJP's The Nightingale) plays Yoshimi, a young artist who travels to a fantastical robot world where she fights for her life. The cast features Tony Award nominee Tom Hewitt (Pilate in McAnuff's Jesus Christ Superstar) as Dr. Peterson and Paul Nolan (Jesus in JCS) as Ben. Basil Twist is the puppet designer.
