Cyndi Lauper Explains Her Kinky Boots Writing Process

The new Cyndi Lauper-scored musical Kinky Boots, featuring a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, with direction and choreography by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell, begins previews at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on March 3. At a recent press conference held at the Hirschfeld, Lauper spoke with collaborator Fierstein about the inspiration for some of the songs in the musical, and how writing for the theatre differs from writing pop songs.
