A Christmas Story, The Musical's Tony Nominated Creators Meet the Press
A Christmas Story, The Musical, which played a limited run on Broadway this past holiday season, earned three 2013 Tony nominations: Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical. Nominated songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, librettist Joseph Robinette, and producer (and original "Ralphie") Peter Billingsley sat down with Playbill at the annual Tony nominee press junket held at midtown NYC's Millennium Broadway Hotel to talk about the classic story's year-round appeal, and the process of bringing it to the stage. To see a list of all this year's Tony nominees, read the Playbill story.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
