Carolee Carmello and Kathie Lee Gifford Preview Scandalous: The Life and Trials of Aimee Semple McPherson
Carolee Carmello and the cast of Scandalous: The Life and Trials of Aimee Semple McPherson invited the press into the rehearsal studio on Sept. 24 as they continued to prepare the new musical — based on the life of early 20th century evangelist-turned-media-pioneer Aimee Semple McPherson — for its upcoming Broadway run. Carmello and company previewed tunes by the trio of Kathie Lee Gifford (lyrics), David Friedman (music) and David Pomeranz (music) including the rousing numbers "Stand Up" and "A Girl's Gotta Do What a Girl's Gotta Do" alongside the inspirational "For Such a Time as This." Directed by David Armstrong, the production begins previews at the Neil Simon Theatre on Oct. 13. To see a Photo Call of the event, click here.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
