From the Vault: Cynthia Nixon Reflects Upon Performing in The Real Thing and Hurlyburly — at the Same Time!

Cynthia Nixon will star alongside Ewan McGregor and Maggie Gyllenhaal in the revival of Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing, which begins performances at the American Airlines Theatre on Oct. 2. Nixon is no stranger to the play — some 30 years ago she played the role of Debbie in a Broadway production that included Glenn Close, Jeremy Irons and Christine Baranski. At that same time, she was also playing Donna in the Broadway production of Hurlyburly only a few blocks away. Sounds confusing? Playwright, author and Playbill.com contributor Marc Acito was on hand to help sort it all out as he and Nixon went on a walking (and explaining!) tour of the blocks between the Schoenfeld Theatre (formerly the Plymouth Theatre) where The Real Thing played, and the Barrymore Theatre, where Hurlyburly played. Check out the latest updates on The Real Thing.
