The Manhattan Theatre Club world premiere of Tony and Oscar winner John Patrick Shanley's Outside Mullingar opened its Broadway engagement Jan. 23 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. Tony Award winner Brían F. O'Byrne plays Anthony, a introvert whose shyness has caused him to spend his entire life on a cattle farm in rural Ireland. Emmy Award winner Debra Messing (in her Broadway debut) is Rosemary, his eccentric neighbor who is determined to make a romantic connection with him in the midst of family turmoil.
