Joshua Henry, Amber Riley, Jared Grimes and Tony winner Adriane Lenox star in the return engagement of the New York City Center Encores! revue Cotton Club Parade, which plays the famed Manhattan venue through Nov. 18. Conceived by Jack Viertel for an engagement that originally played in fall 2011, the show that conjures the dance styles, sketches and songs of the Jazz Age Harlem floorshows is once again directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, with music direction by Jazz at Lincoln Center artistic director Wynton Marsalis. Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
