Theatricum Hilarium! Highlights from "Harry Potter" Parody Potted Potter
Despite its extra-long title, Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience – A Parody by Dan and Jeff, this unauthorized riff on the world of wizard Harry Potter is a compact theatrical experience (70 minutes!) now making its New York City premiere. The stories from all seven Harry Potter fantasy books are condensed (or "potted") and told on stage in a whirlwind of multiple, quick costume changes. Written and performed by Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner, the comedy includes ridiculous props and frisky songs as well as a game of Quidditch in which audience members are asked to participate under a new set of rules devised by the creators. The production, a 2012 Olivier Award nominee for Best Entertainment & Family Show, continues through Sept. 2 at Off-Broadway's Little Shubert Theatre. For more on the show, click here.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
