Tick, Tick... Boom! Set to Explode at Encores! Off-Center
Lin-Manuel Miranda, Karen Olivo and Leslie Odom, Jr. ran through two tunes at a recent press rehearsal for New York City Center's upcoming Encores! Off-Center production of Jonathan Larson's
Tick, Tick... Boom! In this autobiographical musical (written by Larson as a one person show and later adapted into a three character story by David Auburn), Miranda plays Jon, an aspiring composer dealing with unfulfilled dreams and expectations. Here, Miranda, Olivo and Odom, Jr. perform "30/90" and "Therapy." Performances are June 25-28. See a Photo Call from the rehearsal.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
